How Abilities Movement can help:
Abilities Movement’s goal is to help people of all abilities find their path through movement, engagement, and goal achievement. Our programs in adapted fitness, sports, and outdoor programs help people build confidence and utilize that confidence to engage within their community. We partner with community organizations, local businesses, and disability-oriented services in Monroe and surrounding counties to help provide essential programs and opportunities. We work closely with self-directed programs to help build classes around the needs of individuals. Our organization is open to all and has no limitation to who we serve.

Adapted Fitness Training and Healthy Living Program
Abilities Movement offers a health and fitness-based program for people of all abilities, including those with severe medical needs. We help those who are looking to develop healthy habits and assist in building the confidence and skills needed to explore ways to be healthy within their community. Abilities Movement will work with each participant to develop attainable goals that facilitate success. We help people engage in their homes, local fitness centers, recreational centers, community parks, or in whatever venue works best for the individual. We will provide individualized fitness plans, develop community resources, provide healthy cooking support, and develop integration and transition opportunities within an individual’s community.
To create comprehensive programming for indiduals who have severe medical needs, our adapted fitness team will engage in stretching activities, strength development, and functional-based movement to improve each individual’s quality of life. Together, we will develop a health assessment, establish goals, and employ a plan for home and community-based fitness training. We provide training within the community or as home-based programming for people of all abilities. The program will be built around each individual’s needs allowing for maximum success.
Abilities Movment also offers Personal TeleFtiness Sessions for times when distance is required. We help participants meet their fitness goals while adapting to community challenges.

Adapted Group Fitness Training and Healthy Living program
Group Fitness and Healthy Living classes provide activities of healthy living, fitness, stretching, mobility, and range of motion for groups of individuals. This program, open to Assisted Living Centers, Group Homes, Day Programs, and Agencies around the Monroe County area, help those who are looking to develop healthy habits and assist in building the confidence and skills needed to explore ways to be healthy within their community, in a group setting. Abilities Movement will work with each group and each participant to develop attainable goals that facilitate success.
We help people engage in their homes, local fitness centers, recreational centers, community parks, or in whatever venue works best. Abilities Movement also offers Group TeleFtiness Sessions for programs that prefer remote participation and for times when distance is required. We help participants meet their fitness goals while adapting to community challenges. Our providers are invested in the health of all individuals in our community.

Mighty Dunks Basketball Winter 2022-2023
Let’s play basketball! Join us, have fun, and learn about the game of basketball! This program, for people of all abilities, will teach basketball skills, the game of basketball, and provide competition-level skill development and opportunities while providing the social opportunity of being part of a team! Participants ages from 13 and up, com join the fun!
Due to space and time limitation at Perinton Community Center, our two Perinton teams will alternate meeting every other week for the January- June, 2023 season. The teams will be divided into a Mighty Dunks Skills Team and a Mighty Dunks Competition Team. The Mighty Dunks Skills Team will be the same program that you have come to know, offering differentiation and skill development for individuals of all abilities and skill levels. The Mighty Dunks Competition Team will allow team members to work on basketball skills at a competition level, with increased action, physicality, and sustained activity throughout the session. Both programs will feature opportunities for practice and gameplay, and will focus on creating inclusive opportunities and differentiation for all individuals.
Mighty Dunks Competition Team: Skills Assessment Day:
** You must attend to be considered for placement on Mighty Dunks Competition team.
** You must sign up prior to the Assessment Day and have received a confirmation from Abilities Movement in order to attend the Competition Team Skills Assessment Day.

**The Competition Team will not meet on 3/7, due to the Perinton Community Center gym being closed. Instead, the team will meet on Monday, March 13 for the class from 5:45 pm-7:15pm.

Abilities Movement Run Club Spring and Summer 2023
Spring is here and Summer is just around the corner! It’s time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air, the sights and the sounds of our area. The Abilities Movement Run Club is back in action for another season, with weekly meetups at the Perinton Community Center. Join the Abilities Movement Run Club outside (and in difficult weather, inside) at the Perinton Community Center, as we enjoy the weather, sights, and sounds of spring.
We welcome everyone of all abilities, no matter your running level, experience, or adapted needs. Run or walk at your own pace, while we meet for fun and exercise. We’ll work on our running skills together, at our own pace, and have fun while doing it. We will meet each Sunday to work on our running skills together! Dress for the weather when we are outside – layers are best. On days with bad weather, we will use the track or a workout room inside the Perinton Community Center.
So come join us for some exercise , friends, fun, and fresh air!
All local and federal CDC safety guidelines and recommendations will be followed. Masks may be required by participants and spectators. Please bring your own water bottle.

Power Wheelchair Soccer Team!
Join the Rochester Speed Demons
Join Rochester’s only Power Wheelchair Soccer Team, the Rochester Speed Demons! This team sport program is for power wheelchair athletes who would like to compete at a high level. Players must be able to maneuver and control their chair at a fast speed. New players are welcome to come and watch a practice to see if what it is about. First time players will have a board fitted to their wheelchair at the first practice. Potential players that would like to try out power soccer can have a board placed on their chair and participate. Come join us to see what all the fun is about!

Hike with Mindful Meditation- Spring 2023 ***CLASS IS FULL. NO ADDITIONAL SIGN-UPS AVAILABLE***
Join Abilities Movement for a fun and uplifting hike through Mendon Ponds Park Nature Center to bring in the Spring! The trail is accessible to all and is filled with wildlife! Throughout this hike we will be making stops on the trail to take in the sights and sounds of nature and to focus on our breathing, practicing mindful meditation. The trail also has a Sensory Garden where together we will focus on being present in the moment and enjoying the parks surroundings!

Outdoor Group Training Class! – Coming Soon!
We are so excited to introduce our Abilites Movement Group Exercise Class! This class is designed to not only get you moving, but also to have fun while doing it! We will be using a variety of equipment such as: battle ropes, kettlebells, dumbbells, medicine balls and much more! The timed stations will be set up to help you get the best workout possible, plus the group effort will help you build friendships with your fellow participants and cheer each other on!
