How Abilities Movement can help:

Abilities Movement’s goal is to help people of all abilities find their path through movement, engagement, and goal achievement.  Our programs in adapted fitness, sports, and outdoor programs help people build confidence and utilize that confidence to engage within their community. We partner with community organizations, local businesses, and disability-oriented services in Monroe and surrounding counties to help provide essential programs and opportunities.  We work closely with self-directed programs to help build classes around the needs of individuals.  Our organization is open to all and has no limitation to who we serve.

Fitness Programs

1. Adapted Fitness Training and Healthy Living program

We help those who are looking to develop healthy habits and assist in building the confidence and skills needed to explore ways to be healthy within their community. Abilities Movement will work with each participant to develop attainable goals that facilitate success.  We help people engage in their homes, local fitness centers, recreational centers, community parks, or in whatever venue works best for the individual.  We will provide individualized fitness plans, develop community resources, provide healthy cooking support, and develop integration and transition opportunities within an individual’s community.

2. Personalized Fitness for People with Severe Medical Needs

Abilities Movement offers a health and fitness-based program for people with severe medical needs. Our adapted fitness team will engage in stretching activities, strength development, and functional-based movement to improve each individual’s quality of life. Together, we will develop a health assessment, establish goals, and employ a plan for home and community-based fitness training. We provide training within the community or as home-based programming for people of all abilities. The program will be built around each individual’s needs allowing for maximum success.

3. Adapted TELEFitness Training and Healthy Living program

This live, personalized, and interactive TeleFitness program allows individuals to receive crucial fitness, stretching, and strengthening services, while maintaining social distancing. AM provides comprehensive personalized fitness instruction through a number of telecommunication options, individualized for each participant. We help those who are looking to develop healthy habits and assist in building the confidence and skills needed to explore ways to be healthy within their community. 5. Adapted Group Fitness Training and Healthy Living program

GroupFitness and Healthy Living classes provide activiities of healthy living, fitness, stretching, mobility, and range of motion for groups of individuals. This program, open to Assisted Living Centers, Group Homes, Day Programs, and Agencies around the Monroe County area, help those who are looking to develop healthy habits and assist in building the confidence and skills needed to explore ways to be healthy within their community, in a group setting. Abilities Movement will work with each group and  each participant to develop attainable goals that facilitate success.  We help people engage in their homes, local fitness centers, recreational centers, community parks, or in whatever venue works best. Our providers are invested in the health of all individuals in our community.

6. Adapted Group TeleFitness Training and Healthy Living Program

Family members, care providers, and facility support staff may participate in this program, facilitating support and receiving guided instruction directly from our fitness providers. 1. Mighty Dunks Basketball Program – Basketball Spring 2022 (CLASS IS FULL – NO ADDITIONAL REGISTRATIONS ACCEPTED)

Let’s play basketball! This exciting program is for people of all abilities, ages 13 and up. Our coaches teach basketball skills and participants play basketball while experiencing the social opportunity of being part of a team! Join the fun! Register today! Please note the due to class size limitations, walk-ins will not be accepted.

Additional Information: Participants must bring their own basketball. If you need help purchasing please let us know.

2. Abilities Movement Run Club

Join us Outside for the Abilities Movement Run Club Spring 2022! (Sign Ups Begin April 7th)

Join the Abilities Movement Run Club, as we enjoy the weather, sights, and sounds of spring. We welcome everyone of all abilities, no matter your running level, experience, or adapted needs. Run or walk at your own pace, while we meet for fun and exercise.

COVID Safety Protocol: All local and federal CDC safety guidelines and recommendations will be followed.  On the day of the program participants will be required to complete a COVID screening, temperature check, and use hand sanitizer. Masks will be worn by participants and spectators while together and not running. Masks may be removed when the group starts and a distance of at least 6 feet is maintained between participants. Please bring your own water bottle.

3. Snow Shoeing/Winter Hiking 2022

Join us for snoeshoeing and winter hiking!

Join Abilities Movement and friends, as we enjoy the weather, sights, and sounds of winter. Snowshoes and hiking poles will be provided. Please wear boots. Please note that our programs are open to people of all abilities. Our team is educated on adapted sports and fitness to make our programs available to all in our community.

4. Sledding Party with Hot Coco and Snacks 2022

Join us for sledding at mendon ponds park!

Grab your friends and family for a Family Fun Sledding Day with snacks and hot coco! We are ready for winter fun! Join Abilities Movement and friends, as we enjoy the weather, sights, and sounds of winter at Mendon Ponds Park. We welcome everyone of all abilities, no matter your experience, or adapted needs. Our team is educated on adapted sports and fitness to make our programs available to all in our community. We can help provide sleds for those who do not have one. Please contact us when signing up, if you require a sled. Specific location information on where we will meet at Mendon Ponds will be provided.

5. Nordic Skiing 2022

Join us for Nordic Skiing!

Want to learn more about Nordic Skiing? Join us as we have fun together Nordic Skiing and enjoying the winter wonderland outside at Perinton Community Center. Please note that our programs are open to people of all abilities. Our team is educated on adapted sports and fitness to make our programs available to all in our community. We have some equipment, including a variety of boot sizes and skis. We currently have equipment for boot sizes 7- 13. If you need equipment, please note the need for equipment and your boot size when signing up for the program. Sign-ups do not guarantee we will have the size needed.

6. Power Wheelchair Soccer Team!

Join the Rochester Speed Demons

Join Rochester’s only Power Wheelchair Soccer Team, the Rochester Speed Demons! This team sport program is for power wheelchair athletes who would like to compete at a high level. Players must be able to maneuver and control their chair at a fast speed. New players are welcome to come and watch a practice to see if what it is about. First time players will have a board fitted to their wheelchair at the first practice. Potential players that would like to try out power soccer can have a board placed on their chair and participate. Come join us to see what all the fun is about!
