Adapted Fitness Training and Healthy Living Program
Abilities Movement offers a health and fitness-based program for people of all abilities, including those with severe medical needs. We help those who are looking to develop healthy habits and assist in building the confidence and skills needed to explore ways to be healthy within their community. Abilities Movement will work with each participant to develop attainable goals that facilitate success. We help people engage in their homes, local fitness centers, recreational centers, community parks, or in whatever venue works best for the individual. We will provide individualized fitness plans, develop community resources, provide healthy cooking support, and develop integration and transition opportunities within an individual’s community.
To create comprehensive programming for indiduals who have severe medical needs, our adapted fitness team will engage in stretching activities, strength development, and functional-based movement to improve each individual’s quality of life. Together, we will develop a health assessment, establish goals, and employ a plan for home and community-based fitness training. We provide training within the community or as home-based programming for people of all abilities. The program will be built around each individual’s needs allowing for maximum success.
Abilities Movment also offers Personal TeleFtiness Sessions for times when distance is required. We help participants meet their fitness goals while adapting to community challenges.

Adapted Group Fitness Training and Healthy Living program
Group Fitness and Healthy Living classes provide activities of healthy living, fitness, stretching, mobility, and range of motion for groups of individuals. This program, open to Assisted Living Centers, Group Homes, Day Programs, and Agencies around the Monroe County area, help those who are looking to develop healthy habits and assist in building the confidence and skills needed to explore ways to be healthy within their community, in a group setting. Abilities Movement will work with each group and each participant to develop attainable goals that facilitate success.
We help people engage in their homes, local fitness centers, recreational centers, community parks, or in whatever venue works best. Abilities Movement also offers Group TeleFtiness Sessions for programs that prefer remote participation and for times when distance is required. We help participants meet their fitness goals while adapting to community challenges. Our providers are invested in the health of all individuals in our community.

- Integration into the Fitness Center: Abilities Movement is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment at PUSH Fitness Center. To support this goal, we have designated specific hours for individuals with diverse abilities to access and enjoy Push Fitness with Abilities Movement Instructors.
- Specialized Abilities Movement Trainers: At PUSH Fitness, we will have qualified Abilities Movement trainers who specialize in integration and providing adapted fitness for individuals of all abilities at specific days and times each week. They are here to guide and support you on your fitness journey, ensuring a comfortable and empowering experience.
- Community Outreach: Our initiative aims to provide an opportunity for those who may have previously faced challenges in accessing a fitness center. By participating in our designated hours, individuals can become familiar with the facility and its amenities.

- Transitional Support Program: We will work on helping people access the fitness center for all abilities levels, using one-on-one assistance to bring familiarity to the center and equipment in it.

Integration of Day Programs in the Community!
- Abilities Movement invites Day Programs to come to the gym and take a tour and learn more about Abilities Movement and PUSH Fitness
- Abilities Movement will develop an 8-week program that will focus on: development of fitness charts, training support staff and program staff on the facility. Abilities Movement will be providing on-going support
- Guided Tours: Abilities Movement dedicated trainers will be available to lead tours of our facility, showcasing the incredible equipment and amenities we offer. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to explore various areas, including:- Cardio Equipment: Experience state-of-the-art cardio machines designed to improve cardiovascular fitness.- Weight Machines: Discover a range of weight machines that cater to different muscle groups, helping you strengthen and tone your body.- Free Weights: Explore a selection of free weights, allowing for a versatile and customizable workout experience.

Abilities Movement Run Club Winter/Spring 2024
Winter is here and Run Club is on the Move! It’s time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air, the sights and the sounds of our area. The Abilities Movement Run Club is back in action for another season, with weekly meetups at the Perinton Community Center. Join the Abilities Movement Run Club outside (and in difficult weather, inside) at the Perinton Community Center, as we enjoy the weather, sights, and sounds of winter and spring.
We welcome everyone of all abilities, no matter your running level, experience, or adapted needs. Run, walk, or use your mobility device at your own pace, while we meet for fun and exercise. We’ll work on our running skills together, at our own pace, and have fun while doing it. We will meet each Sunday to work on our running skills together! Dress for the weather when we are outside – layers are best. On days with bad weather, we will use the track or a workout room inside the Perinton Community Center.
So come join us for some exercise , friends, fun, and fresh air!
All local and federal CDC safety guidelines and recommendations will be followed. Masks may be required by participants and spectators. Please bring your own water bottle and wear sunscreen if needed.

Mighty Dunks Adapted Basketball Winter/Spring 2024 Sign Ups!
Mighty Dunks is ready for action!
Join us, have fun, and learn about the game of basketball! This program, for people of all abilities, will teach basketball skills, the game of basketball, and provide competition-level skill development and opportunities while providing the social opportunity of being part of a team! Participants ages from 13 and up, come join the fun!
Our two Perinton teams will alternate weekly. The teams will be divided into a Mighty Dunks Skills Team and a Mighty Dunks Competition Team. The Mighty Dunks Skills Team will be offering differentiation and skill development for individuals of all abilities and skill levels. The Mighty Dunks Competition Team will allow team members to work on basketball skills at a competition level, with increased action, physicality, and sustained activity throughout the session. Both programs feature opportunities for practice and gameplay, and will focus on creating inclusive opportunities and differentiation for all individuals.

If you are already a member of the Skills Team at Perinton, you will be rejoining the Mighty Dunks Skills Team at Perinton. If you are new to the Mighty Dunks program and would like to participate in Perinton, one of our coaches will reach out to speak with you about which team (Skills or Competition) will be the best fit for you. If you would like to switch from the Skills Team to the Competition Team, please reach out to us to let our coaches speak with you regarding an assessment for the best fit.
Registrations will be processed by first to sign up and by space available. Once the maximum number of participants is reached, no additional sign-ups will be accepted. Walk-ins to the program will not be accepted, once the maximum number of participants is reached.

3. Abilities Movement will send an invoice for the one-time yearly registration fee of $40. There are no other fees associated with the hikes once you are a member of the Abilities Movement Hiking Club for the year.
4. You will be added to the Hiking Club Email Distribution List.
5. At the beginning of each month, we will send an email out to the Hiking Club Email Distribution List with the planned hike(s) for the month. This will include alternate Level A hikes when applicable.
6. Sign up for the hike(s) for that month by emailing info@abilitiesmovement.org or calling/texting 585-690-4408. Please indicate your name and the hike that you will be attending. Please note that space is limited for this program, and sign-ups are processed in the order they are received. Signing up does not guarantee registration for the hike. All registration confirmations will be sent in the order they are received.

This team sport program is for power wheelchair athletes who would like to compete at a high level. Players must be able to maneuver and control their chair at a fast speed. New players are welcome to come and watch a practice to see if what it is about. First time players will have a board fitted to their wheelchair at the first practice. Potential players that would like to try out power soccer can have a board placed on their chair and participate. Come join us to see what all the fun is about!

Red Cross Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid
Abilities Movement is excited to be able to offer Red Cross CPR, First Aid and AED classes!
Through our partnership with the Red Cross, class participants will earn a Red Cross Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid. This course will be a blended learning class. The participants will read the material online and come to class for the skills tests. Online portion must be complete before coming to class.
Private classes for your group are also possible outside of the printed class schedule. AM is offering Adult and Adult/Pediatric CPR, First Aid and AED certification classes. Contact us to learn more or to sign up for this class.
Signing Up : This popular program has a limited enrollment and slots are filling up fast. Registrations will be processed by first to sign up and by space available. Once the maximum number of participants is reached, no additional sign-ups will be accepted. Walk-ins to the program will not be accepted.

Abilities Movement & Homesteads for Hope with support from the New York State “On the Canals” program, through the NYS Canal Corp., offers a variety of kayaking experiences for people of all abilities! Abilities Movement invites you to kayak and canoe. Our program aims to empower individuals with diverse abilities by building confidence in kayaking skills. Whether you want to just experience sitting in a kayak (free to do) or venture out onto beautiful Erie Canal with an instructor, Abilities Movement will help you to experience the joys of kayaking.

Arrival Time:We kindly request that participants arrive early to the scheduled sessions to allow ample time for preparation before the session start time.
Late Arrivals: Please note that late arrivals will have the time reserved for their session only. We are unable to extend sessions or reschedule.
Dress for the Weather: Please dress appropriately for the weather forecast on the day of your session. Please wear sunscreen and bring a water bottle.

Abilities Movement will email you a confirmation, your schedule, and any required registration documents.
